Professor Joern Rittweger: is head of the ‘Space Physiology’ division at the DLR institute. He is a Professor of Clinical Physiology at Manchester Metropolitan University as well as Professor of Physiology at the Medical Faculty, University of Cologne. He is an expert in musculoskeletal physiology, with the main , interest being the mechanical interface between muscle and bone. He has published over 100 peer-review. He has been a member of the European Space Agency expert group on Artificial Gravity (since 2007), and is the leader of the ESA Topical Team (TT) on ‘Exercise in Space’ (established in 2010) and a member of the TT on Lunar Habitat Simulations (established in 2009).
